So, these bars, I heard about them for SO LONG that frankly, I had time to develop a quasi fantasy around. Finally, thanks to one of you, I had the opportunity to taste several of them and take the time to analyze the product to tell you about them in detail!

THE PROMISE

The Perfect Keto brand hit the ketogenic market around 2016 it seems to me, and initially offered mostly MCT oils, MCT powders, collagen, and shakers. Then, it diversified by offering bars for snacking.

The range of bars is quite diversified, and offers very attractive flavors (at least on paper):

chocolate and peanut butter (that was for me, bro)
almond brownie
rolled cinnamon (cinnamon roll)
lemon poppy
cookie dough
birthday cake (yes, you read that right)

THE ADVANTAGES OF THE PRODUCT

THE ADVANTAGES PUT FORTH BY THE BRAND:

👉 perfect for a snack, and we even tell you, perfect for breakfast: brings satiety without getting out of ketosis
👉 no more than 2–3 g of carbohydrates per bar, therefore, normally we do not get out of ketosis
👉 greedy taste but without sweetener or alcohol sugar
👉 contains 10–11g of protein, including bovine collagen: therefore useful for a collagen supplement

WHAT DO I THINK OF IT

These are still relatively expensive products: available around $ 53–59 per box of 12 bars, so I admit that I hope the product keeps its promise.

THE OBJECTIVE: THE COMPO

👉 The obvious advantage of the product is that it actually manages to be low in carbohydrates (no more than 2–3g per bar) without using alcohol sugar such as erythritol, xylitol, etc.

✅ Indeed, these alcohol sugars are problematic because, in addition to fermenting in the intestine and disrupting the microbiota there, they can, in certain sensitive people, disrupt blood sugar levels. It is therefore very good news that the brand has chosen not to use it!

👉 Another advantage, each bar contains 10g of protein, and not just any protein: bovine collagen, fed with grass!

✅ There, very good effort by the brand to put a protein of animal origin, quality, and especially bovine collagen. This can help you integrate collagen into your daily intake in a convenient way (without having to take your jar of collagen powder everywhere!). As it is also quite an expensive commodity, this may also explain the high overall price of the bar.

👉 The brand tells us that the bars are a perfect snack for a snack or breakfast. On this point, uh… no. Of course, we do not get out of ketosis, but the bar contains, on average, only 17g of fat for 45g of product, which does not seem to me to be an optimal ratio for a snacking, AND EVEN LESS A BREAKFAST!

🛑 For me, a ketogenic snack should contain a minimum of 25–30g of fat, especially during the adaptation phase. This is even more problematic when you consider that the bar could “replace” a breakfast. This would in no case be fatty enough to take the place of breakfast, ensure macros and stabilize blood sugar.

Note that, in some people, this type of bar can provide sufficient satiety. But not for everyone, and once again, in terms of the amount of fat I think it’s a bit tight, or so, to consume with a fatty drink!

👉 The last point, unfortunately, inevitable when you want to make a bar: the products contain oilseeds, almond butter, peanut butter, cashew, etc., depending on the tastes offered.

I think the amount in the bar is not particularly problematic if its consumption is occasional, but if you have intestinal sensitivity, intestinal porosity, and you are in the midst of rebuilding your intestine, it would be better to avoid!

THE SUBJECTIVE: THE TASTE

The brothers: I’m sorry to say it so bluntly but I found it ABOMINABLE. I couldn’t finish either.

The first taste on the palate is quite good, and the texture is also quite successful. But second taste comes then, which I found really disgusting. I think it’s linked to the presence of collagen, which I personally don’t like at all for the taste. And because, precisely, the bars do not contain strong-tasting alcohol sugars that could “ cover “, we really feel this collagen. For me totally unacceptable.

Obviously, like all things related to the senses and especially to taste, this appreciation is subjective. But on the other hand, it is not mitigated: I really found it bad, and I gave the rest of the bars to a friend who was not bothered by the collagen. Moreover, I want to emphasize that these bars are popular with a lot of people, proof that this taste story is personal and that my feelings should not discourage you from tasting them if you have the opportunity!

IN CONCLUSION

In a few words, what I think of these bars:

👉 It is rather a nice component: no erythritol or other alcohol sugars, very very few carbohydrates, and a good quantity of bovine collagen and good quality.
👉 Unfortunately for me, a really disastrous taste, especially because of the presence of collagen.
👉 Small flat on the fact that the bars contain various nuts, seeds, and oilseeds AND that they are a little fair on the fat intake. But we can completely consider consuming them accompanied by a hot drink with fat for example!

I still wanted to remind you that my opinion is based only on the flavors: Brownie Almond, Lemon Poppy, and Cinnamon Roll, and that the other flavors ( peanut butter in particular ) may have a different balance.
